Technical aspects

We will hold the event virtually and use different platforms, mainly Zoom, gather.town hosted by Virtual Chair and Sci-an.

An info sheet with all the relevant links will be send out to the participants in the week of the conference. In addition, there will be technical support during the conference that can be contacted at any time.

Which platforms are we going to use?

To make sure that you are well prepared for the conference and that you can already try out the conference tools, we have prepared a small overview for you:

Slack

Slack will be our communication platform for sharing messages and documents. A person from the conference team will be available there as well during the entire conference in case you have questions or need support.

If you have never used Slack before, feel free to check out the slack help centre to prepare. There you will find numerous video tutorials and instructions.

Zoom

We will use zoom as the main tool for the conference. The opening and the first input on day 1 will take place exclusively via zoom. On day 2, we will also see each other via zoom first and end the conference day with zoom again. No matter which other platform we use in between, there will always be someone from the conference team in our zoom session to answer questions and provide support.

If you are not yet familiar with zoom, feel free to take a look at the zoom support platform before the conference. There you will find a guide to get started as well as support in case you have any technical problems with zoom. You do not need your own account to participate in the conference.

Gather.town

We will use Gather.town (by Virtual Chair) on day 1 for the panel discussion and the evening programme. If you don't know Gather.town yet and want to get familiar with it before the conference, you can try the platform here for free.

Gather.town also has a support platform where you can find helpful information on how to use it and help with technical problems. You do not need to create an account for Gather.town before the conference either.

Sci-an

Sci-an is a platform for online scientific events that you can also use beyond the conference to network with scientists.

Though you can join the room and interact with others as a guest, we highly recommend you take a few minutes to set up a sci-an profile. We’d also like to encourage you to fill in some personal information and a few keywords on your profile. This will make it easier for people to find you and will also serve as some conversation starters!

Sci-an offers a free interactive demo that allows you to get to know the platform before the conference.

We have prepared a guide with all relevant information for sci-an.
